Flower bud

Each new day brings its share of joys, challenges, opportunities and motivations.  This personal truth smacked me in the face earlier this year as I was lying in the hospital two days after having had a major operation.  My surgeon stood by my bedside and told me quite frankly that I could either make some life changes and lose some weight, or we could meet to do this surgery about every two years!  It's not like I was unaware that I was overweight before that day, but my blood work always came back in the normal ranges and I felt good. Well, good except for the back pain that had started three years ago.  I was not motivated to do the actual work necessary to lose weight until that moment.

So there I had the challenge and motivation for the day.  A day or two later, as I was relaying that conversation to some visitors, one of whom happened to be my minister, she said, "We should start a weight loss group at Vision."  I told her I was totally on board for heading up that little project.  And here we are, 3 months later, planning to start a group in August.  That little door of opportunity opened up so quickly and I walked through it with no hesitation.

During the past three months I have consciously, deliberately and joyfully reduced my body weight by 30 pounds.  I say it that way because I have not lost anything!  The difference between this "diet" and all the ones before in my life, is that I have no resistance to it.  I have no sense that it's 'not fair' or that I'll never be able to eat 'normally' again. I feel free, and full, all the time!  I am different because my focus is on the things in life that are important to me.  My family, my friends, my health, writing, and walking.  Diet and exercise fit into the life I love this time, rather than taking it over to the exclusion of everything else.  I love my life and I am so excited to share the ideas, tools, and practices that got me to this point.
